description:
The Brownfields are "abandoned, idled or under-used industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination" - Public Law #107-118 H.R. 2869 (quoted in thesis work of Cronin). "These sites have lost their original function completely. They are in transition, waiting for hazardous wastes to subside so revitalization can take place. Brownfields are vulnerable places and I was connecting with them on an emotional level. -Maura Cronin Cronin is fascinated with these spaces, especially in the visual aspects of the peeling paint, broken mill windows, etc. things that are typically seen as eyesores to those throughout the community. "Building a bridge across the brownfield was a way to give presence to an area that was isolated and inaccessible" - Cronin
