I articulate layers of building through generational change. To achieve vertical height, I stack pipe-like extruded bricks out of clay material. Piece by piece, debri is dipped and sticked and pushed through multiple firings to become the building blocks of this change. This is a metaphor for time and the debri that comes and goes from occupying space over time. Building up and breaking down,the ruins of an incomplete structure bring lifelessness to a space of absent living. Blown out spaces and visible portals speak to feelings of loss, longing, and passing through. Places that I have occupied for only short periods of time have pieces missing in their forms, because I only had limited time to visually absorb these spaces as home. They suggest places that you once called home, but no longer exist. The foundation is made up of the same tube-like bricks fused with a pale pink glaze to the surface of a kiln shard. Where it is built, it stays; a site-specific nod adopted in the process. I have chosen select colors to suggest strength. The glazes and minimal use of heavy saturated color add warmth and connote the �lived in.� The weight of the brick changes as the form grows becoming more fragile as the line weight shifts shown by the thicker and thinner line quality. The way the structure comes together in the process speaks to its stability and its future to continue to withstand. Spaces and gaps, broken parts and missing pieces are all results of the curatorial and firing process. The regeneration process is key to the success of the final form and how it stands.
