"Our final show of Fall 2006 semester, "RE:figure: gods + monsters," is a compelling show of seven national artists who make use of the human figure as subject," said Gallery Director Jennifer Pepper. "The theme of this highly charged visual show is the way in which each artist approaches the subject, illustrating the myriad interpretations and perceptions of the human condition identified as social creature, as hunter, as mother, as lover, as son, street warrior, cultural architect, mythological messenger, to name only a few. Some artists adhere strongly to painting traditions, while others make use of 3-D media that straddle walls and sit on top of intimate shelving. This is a show not to be missed." by Cazenovia College. http://www.cazenovia.edu/default.aspx?tabid=782

Artists probe contemporary issues through traditional methods. By Catherine Carter, Standard-Times correspondent, March 02, 2007. ----- " Vincent Hron, also a professor at Bloomsburg University, working in oil on canvas, paints everyday scenes: a woman fastening her bra in front of the bathroom mirror, a mother changing her baby on the living room couch, and a man crouching in front of the refrigerator as he draws something out from the bottom shelf. Sounds straightforward enough, but Mr. Hron doesn't present these scenes from a straightforward point of view. All of his compositions are angled so that the floors and walls and everything we expect to be parallel and perpendicular to the edges of the canvas are running in diagonals. The sense of space is further disorienting because we are also looking down on these tilted rooms, so that they have a tipped-forward Cubist perspective. Also jarring is the number of objects and the amount of patterning and textural detail that Mr. Hron crams into each picture. The living room scene has rugs and pillows and curtains and upholstery and blankets and plants and quilts and knickknacks and lamps and floorboards. Mr. Hron says these "potentially animate objects suggest psychological overtones that invite viewers to contemplate the ritualistic aspects of common behavior."
