High School Invitational Art Exhibition Exhibition dates: March 114, 2013 Opening reception: Saturday, March 2, from 2 to 4 pm Participating High Schools: Auburn High School, Bishop Connolly High School, Bourne High School, Brockton High School, Fairhaven High School, Marlborough High School, Pembroke High School, Portsmouth Abbey School, Somerset Berkley Regional High School, and Westport High School The Fine Arts Department at the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) will hold the first High School Invitational Art Exhibition at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The exhibition will be on view in the CVPA Campus Gallery on the first floor of the CVPA building at UMass Dartmouth, 285 Old Westport Road, North Dartmouth from March 1 to March 14, 2013. An opening reception for the exhibiting students, their art teachers, the UMass Dartmouth community, and the general public will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, from 2 to 4 pm, where the awards will be announced. The Fine Arts Department is hosting this exhibition to showcase the work of many talented art students in the region. The exhibition recognizes the exceptional merit of high school art students from ten high school art programs in Massachusetts: Auburn High School, Bishop Connolly High School, Bourne High School, Brockton High School, Fairhaven High School, Marlborough High School, Pembroke High School, Portsmouth Abbey School, Somerset Berkley Regional High School, and Westport High School. The participating schools were chosen for the long-term commitment they have demonstrated to art education and the quality of work that comes from their art programs. The art teachers from these high schools were asked to select one to three pieces in any media (drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, printmaking, etc.) from three of their best students to be included in this group exhibition. The result is a truly exciting exhibition that brings together and highlights the talents of these young artists.
