description:
Artist Statement: Simply stated, I am a woman who creates ceramic vessels about women. That is my explanation minus the poetic rhetoric. However, simplicity does not effectively define the greater depth of ones work. The following describes the physical attributes of my works. They are sculptural vessels inspired by the "idea" of femininity. These vessels are visual abstractions of womanly forms. There are combinations of imagery to express a sensual, curvy-linear body. The vessels include a repertoire of visual imagery and symbols, contours of the human body, draping folds of fabric, ornamentation in textile design, surfaces and forms in nature -all of which combine to create a ceramic habiliment, of sorts. I carefully consider color and forms to suggest femininity. I explore qualities that would emphasize attractiveness, sensuality, strength and self-assurance. While I imagine that, the vessels might appear delicate, unstable and offer a certain amount of vulnerability; I also intend they embody strength, self-assuredness and deliberateness.
