Jennifer is standing in the apartment where she became a mother, a space where her entire life has changed. She wears a simple black dress, which in Western culture evokes the sense of a funeral setting or represents a loss. This dress was chosen to represent a figurate death of the previous Jennifer, and her rebirth as a parent. Remnants of the grid peer through the layers of paint to show an underlying structure that Jennifer?s previous life was built on. They still echo through but are now starting to disappear under the new layers. The choice to leave the grid allows for the person?s history to come through and reveal the past that allowed Jennifer to arrive where she is now. The empty table represents an uncluttered, fresh start, the artifacts of the past are part of the present-day Jennifer, but she chooses not to be burdened by them as she transitions into a new version of herself as a mother.
