In a sea of blues, the figure bathed in the mid-afternoon sun beckons a closer inspection. The cerulean blues of the water and pool emphasize the warm oranges and reds of Joe?s tanned body. The title comes from the early motto of the Young Men?s Christian Association. I chose this title because the setting for this piece is the YMCA in Chino, California. This painting is about people finding themselves in the spaces they choose to inhabit. Joe feels at home in the water, an empty lane is his idea of heaven.
