Henry Campbell Avery received his BFA degree in painting from the former Swain School of Design in 1985, where he studied with David Loeffler Smith, Severin Haines and Benjamin Martinez.In 1987, he earned his MFA degree in painting from the Parsons School of Design in New York, studying with Leland Bell, John Heliker and Paul Resika.In 1986-19876, he held a Parsons Institution Scholarship as a Helena Rubenstein Scholar.Mr. Avery also studied traditional Chinese painting and printmaking at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in the People's Republic of China. A member of the Providence Art Club and the Creative Club of Providence, both in Rhode Island, Mr. Avery has also been a Visiting Artist for the University of Massachusetts/Boston Program in Nantucket.In 1996, he had a solo exhibition, "Regional Perspectives," at the Westport Rivers Vineyard and Winery Art Gallery in Westport, Mass. With Jim Allen in 1998, he had a two-person exhibition at the Providence Art Club, and has participated in group exhibits at the Providence Art Club, R.I., the Rogers Gallery, Mattapoisett, and the Nemasket Gallery in Fairhaven. Henry Campbell Avery was one of 13 artists chosen in 1987 for an international exchange exhibition between the Parsons School of Design and the Paris Ecole des Beaux Arts.That same year, he was selected as one of forty artists from across the nation to be included in the "Grumbacher Emerging Artists Exhibition." A resident of Mattapoisett, Henry Campbell Avery's work is represented in numerous private collections across Massachusetts.
